Discussion: We all have themes that we like and dislike but what about the themes we haven't tried. What theme would you like to write but haven't yet?

Although the subject is very personal to me, I would like to write something that features self injury but my own experiences of SI tend to hold me back because I feel that I'd be constantly worrying that a scene could be triggering for me.

At mum's house and able to use her more reliable internet to add words to one of the fics in my writing dw. Yay me.

What remains unwritten? Wow, lots of things. Most are those fic id tropes I admire but the plottiness and or wordcount required to do them properly seems beyond me atm.

I had the day off today, and did some relaxing things, which did not include writing. That's okay, though! I think I'll jump back in tomorrow and try my hand at writing a battle I've been avoiding.

I have not written much romance. I have dabbled in it a bit privately but have yet to post those dabblings, so I guess that's the theme I would say I want to write. Another theme that comes to mind is writing the death of a parent; having experienced it, I think I could write it well -- but I'm not sure I want to! :-)

Ooooh, hmm, things I haven't tried but would like to... There's a couple of specific characters, and specific pairings, that I'd like to do but haven't enough confidence and/or plot notions to try anytime soon; as far as themes are concerned, though? I'm not sure!

Okay, I would really like to try an unreliable narrator someday. In fact, I have the start of something built upon that premise (narrating character is asexual, or a late bloomer, and oblivious to the relationships forming around him - while the reader is not) but it's unlikely to get off the ground. At least in part because I remain unsure whether I can pull it off, but there's also some unrelated plotting problems that would be really hard to solve without a complete do-over.
