Discussion: deadlines. When you're working on a fic that isn't for a challenge do you ever set deadlines for yourself?

I do sometimes set myself a deadline when I'm not writing for a challenge, I usually put a specific word count to reach or I'll pick a date to have a very rough draft done by. I don't always reach my own deadlines and I am notoriously slow at finishing things.

I edited a couple of old pieces I did years ago to freshen them up for a new challenge I'm participating in, so that helps me feel like I accomplished something! That's about all I can manage at the moment while I'm traveling.

Challenges really help me getting things accomplished, but it doesn't work as well to set my own deadlines. Somehow I know it's "artificial" and I still procrastinate. ;-) Setting a word count as a deadline might work better for me than a date, because then I might be more likely to work on writing.
