What's the shortest thing you ever wrote? What do you like and dislike about writing at that length?

The shortest thing I've ever written was about two hundred words. Writing something so short forced me to pick my words carefully, to imply much more than I actually said. I was surprised by what I could fit into something that short. I prefer having more room to develop characters and events, though. I'll never be a drabble writer. It's not something I'm good at.

I'm just about to get started on my fic even though I'm undecided about what to work on, my big bang or an angsty one shot for prompt in a box.

The shortest I've written is 39 words. I wrote it after I'd been in an accident, and I still dislike everything about it.

The shortest I've written is 100 words. I like being able to spend a long time on every single word, and I love the idea of hinting at more than there is in the story. But I think that such short fics need a good idea to work. With longer fics, you can go for tried story lines or tropes and make it interesting and different via the details you add, and you have time to make the reader care about your story, whereas extremely short fics mostly hinge on a snappy idea.

The shortest thing I ever wrote was a one-sentence "story" written for a comment fic prompt. I actually kind of like it, though it was definitely a challenge to cram everything into one sentence.
