[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Greetings on Monday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or if you haven't begun yet, what do you hope for today?
  • I thought about my fic once or twice
  • I wrote
  • I did some planning and/or research
  • I edited
  • I've sent my fic off to my beta
  • I posted today!
  • I'm taking a break
  • I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment
For Discussion: Your first-ever fic that you let other people see -- do you still have it?  Do you ever reread it?  How do you think it stands up to your more recent writing?

I posted two prompt fills for [livejournal.com profile] prompt_in_a_box last night and I'm just about to get started on another prompt fill for the same challenge, I only need to edit and double check something from canon for it before posting.

I think the first story I ever shared was something I wrote when I was in primary school and it was about my team Leeds Rhinos but I can't remember much else about it though. The first fic I posted online was in 2004 for a fandom I no longer have any involvement with and I did recently read it again, I doubt I'd ever go back and fix the few mistakes I noticed. That fic is posted to my comm.

Still thinking about my fic. This isn't good, because it's my [livejournal.com profile] public_call fic, and it's due on Sunday.

My first-ever fic I let others see was posted with my LJ account on a kink meme. (Prior to that, I wrote fic, but away from fandom, and by hand.) I then cross-posted it to LJ and later AO3. I don't reread it, in part because I've left the fandom. And I think it's not as good as what I write now--originally I thought I was going to write smut for a while, but then I branched out.

I'm reviewing canon for my Yuletide assignment. I have an idea for where to start, but I can't find an opening sentence. That's my goal for today-- Just one sentence. I think, if I can get that, I'll write a good bit more. I just need a foot in the door.

I was in my thirties when I started writing fanfic. I'd written original stories before that. I'm still reasonably pleased with my early fic.

I posted a smut fic, and now I'm nervously refreshing the stats. I don't think I'll get anything useful done this evening.

When I posted my first fanfic, I was already in my early twenties, so the stuff isn't too bad.

I'm working on 3 different bingos, lol. I've just finished two fics which will need a lot of editing and improvement but the stories are written. Both fill prompts on my [community profile] ladiesbingo card. We're allowed to post stories that fulfill cross challenges, which makes things a little easier. So one of my stories also fulfills prompts on both my [community profile] trope_bingo card and my darkbingo card over on LJ; the second fulfills a darkbingo card prompt as well.

Also I posted a Rec Set yesterday for the 'mind games' square on the [community profile] trope_bingo card. It was a prompt that I realized I would have a lot of trouble writing, but fortunately we're not limited to fic. There are several types of acceptable fanworks, including rec lists.

I have one prompt for each bingo card left but I haven't even started the stories for those yet. Based on the ideas I have right now I'll only need to write 2 new fics by December 31st to fill the last squares on all my cards. I'm feeling pretty accomplished though and hopefully real life won't get in the way of me finishing the rest of my challenges in time.

I wrote a bunch of stuff when I was a teenager but was too embarrassed to show it to anyone, so it was never posted anywhere and I don't have any of it anymore (it was either shredded or burned). My writing has definitely improved since those fics, and I would say it has even improved from just a couple of years ago.
