Discussion: favourite time to write. Do you have a favourite time of the day or night to start writing? Can you write at any time?

I used to love writing in the middle of the night because I was always more focused but with working shifts I’ve had to adapt and learn to start my writing at different times of the day. Although I can write at any time now, I still prefer the middle of the night.

I tend to get things done in the middle of the night as well.

I have a guest coming to stay for 2 weeks, so I've been getting the place ready for that. I also have a million other jobs demanding my attention all at once and it doesn't bode well for writing! But I'm committed to my Yulefic, so I'll just have to find the time and a quiet place to work on it.

I used to always do my best writing at night, and I think that's still true for the most part. I have gotten some good writing done when starting in the morning, but only when I know I have the whole day ahead of me and don't have to be somewhere at such and such a time. That restriction somehow keeps me from wanting to get started. Writing at night gives you the option of staying up until it's done and no interruptions! Feeling tired the next day is awkward, but worth it. Unfortunately, it is also easy to turn to surfing or playing a computer game at night when I'm tired and thus waste my opportunity to write.

I started a story but I think it got away from me. I need to figure out where I'm going with it beyond general theme, and then revisit the passages I've already written.

I usually love writing at about nine or ten PM, and into the night. It's harder now since I have to be particular about my sleep. Now I often write at around 5 or 6 PM.
