Discussion: Write the perfect oneshot, people asking for a sequel (fanfic flamingo)
Picture of a flamingo’s head on a pink background with the white text write the perfect oneshot, people asking for a sequel

Have you ever had a review on a oneshot that asked for a sequel? Did you write the requested sequel?

I actually had this earlier this year with one of my Star Trek: Voyager fics, I clearly stated in my header/notes that it was a oneshot and also a prompt fill for a challenge and one of the reviews was it could do with a sequel even though I knew for certain that there wouldn’t be one.

This happens to me A LOT. Sometimes for fics I wrote years ago or in fandoms I don't write for anymore. /o\ I feel bad because I wouldn't mind writing more but I know I can't or won't for whatever reasons. I tried to explain this once to a sequel requester and they just insisted. But I don't think I've written one of the requested sequels yet. =/

I have had such requests, though only rarely. Never resulted in anything. When I'm done, I'm done, unless someone manages to spark a very specific idea.

I'm yearning to get away for the holidays so I can actually have some time to write. For the time being, it's just me dealing with life and no time or no writing energy left to make any progress. I am hopefully planning for a binge of writing the last 5 days of December or so!

I've had requests for sequels a couple of time, which always surprised me because I thought the stories in question were definitely one shots. I did sort of get talked into at least considering doing a sequel in one case, though. It hasn't come to any actual writing yet, but I came up with some ideas and created a folder for it in my Writing Projects.

In my first fandom I would get "update soon" comments on every single story, if I got any reviews at all. Once I aired out and started visiting other fandoms, I got a lot less of that. Once I got a sequel request that I genuinely wished I could fill, but it was beyond my capabilities as a writer. Though, I still seem to have a problem with meme indexers forgetting to label my fills complete.
