Discussion: distractions. What things distract you when you're writing? Is there anything that doesn't distract you?

My biggest distraction is a game on my phone called Wacka Monsta, I tend to start playing one level and that becomes several levels in no time at all. The one thing that doesn’t distract me is the TV because I don’t own one and when I do have access to it, I find that I can still work and use it a background noise.

Television. I have to stop writing to pay attention to some shows. (Other shows I can leave in the background, such as The Voice.)

My biggest distraction is my daughter. I have a lot of trouble writing when she's home. I can edit, but I have trouble producing new words. She likes to watch TV, and I tend to get sucked into that even when it's a show I dislike (She adores Disney sitcoms).

I used to be able to write while the TV was going. I'm not sure when I lost the ability.

When my daughter isn't around, I have to watch out for my solitaire program. It's so easy to say, "Just one more game." I do need to play sometimes because it lets me shake ideas loose. It's just that I have a hard time stopping.

When my mood is disrupted (too low, or too energetic) everything is a distraction. Even things I don't particularly enjoy or get anything out of. If I can manage my mood, research can still get out of hand. I'll have several tabs of Wikipedia, some sort of canon review fan-wiki, a fanlore page on a certain trope, a YouTube video because I just must verify what hyena calls sound like... It's endless and all-consuming. Severe self-control is called for.
