[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
I apologize for missing a few days -- I had this post ready to go on Tuesday and forgot to post it.  I guess I thought I'd be better organized this holiday season so that I could manage consistent check in posting even with all the family goings on.  ;-)  Anyway....

I hope the last couple of days have gone well and that there's been some time for writing for you. Here's the sometimes-true writing-related quote for the day:

You can't wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.
-- Jack London

1. How has your inspiration-clubbing gone today?
  • I'm writing!
  • I'm researching!
  • I'm editing!
  • I'm taking a break!
  • I'm wishing I had time to write, but I'm just too busy with other things...
2. For Discussion:  On Sunday, we talked a bit about getting back into writing after a long spell of inactivity.  For me, inspiration sometimes takes a hit if I haven't been able to make time for writing.  What do you do to get yourself inspired, if inspiration is attempting to elude you?

Kind of fluish, so I doubt I'll do anything productive today. Although, Yuletide. Maybe reading fic all day will give me inspiration.

I took a break--I had to install a new TV and clean up on Christmas. But on Christmas Eve, I managed to write about ~600 or so words for [community profile] kidficstory. (Draft-wise, I should have a bit more time for that because I don't plan to seek out an artist for that big bang.) And I'm thinking ahead to [community profile] casestory--hopefully that'll open up again. But I need to actually write for [community profile] holly_poly. I'm running out of time for that.

For inspiration, I finish up other things before getting back to the project I need to work on. It's a toss-up on whether the project survives or not, though. (I just suffered this during the writing period for Yuletide.)

Beyond LJ/DW entries, I've done no writing this week. I've been taking a break, after finishing my Yuletide story. I expect to pick things up again once my daughter's back in school on the 6th.

When I'm having difficulty finding my inspiration, I often take time to do something mindless for a while. Taking a walk or playing solitaire or baking can really help shake things loose. I often just need a little time to let the things I know float to the surface of my mind. Of course, if that fails, I just start typing and see what happens.

I've been taking a break with my family visiting this week and they're going home tomorrow morning, so once they're away I'll be locking the door and hibernating for a few days with my fics.

All I've managed to do with having visitors is make notes for various short fics that will likely be prompt fills for my [community profile] genprompt_bingo and [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo tables and I also added a few things to include in my [community profile] kidficstory big bang. My priority is the big bang because the draft is due next week and I'm starting to panic a little.

For inspiration I usually refresh canon and when that doesn't work I go for a walk along the beach and sometimes along the river, it depends on how uninspired I feel.
