[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Greetings on Tuesday!  I thought I'd check in with everyone and see how you all are doing with your works in progress and other writing goals -- and hopefully keep myself on track in the bargain!

How's the day going so far for fic?

How much time have you spent on your fic today, roughly?

In five words or less, how do you feel about that?

Discussion question: We're now a week into the new year.  Did any of you make New Year's resolutions that involve writing?  If so, what are they?  What is your plan of action for achieving those goals?

I haven't been writing, but I've been planning my course of action.  I've entered several challenges this month that I feel will help motivate me to actually write, rather than just think about writing.  As usual at the beginning of the year, I have writing goals -- among other things, I want to write every day.  In order to achieve that, I have to limit some of the things I have a tendency to do when I sit down at my computer (like play games!) and I may try using a timer and plan on writing for a set period of time.  I think that may help me develop the habit here at the beginning.  I had a similar goal last year, and didn't really achieve it, but that was on me and had nothing to do with the goal being unrealistic.  Good goals are worth trying again until they work!  ;-)

I've been doing some world building in preparation for writing. I keep hoping that I'll manage some writing, but my daughter has had two extra days off from school due to the weather (snow on Monday and extreme cold today. We actually had ice on the inside of our windows this morning).

I've resolved to spend the next year focusing on my big WIP rather than doing exchanges and challenges. It's going to be hard to resist because I love exchanges, but I've been working on this story for more than a decade. I'd like to make some serious progress on it. The next chapter needs some world building. I'm probably going to work on the bubble rather than create detailed cultures just for this chapter. I will hope that it doesn't come back to bite me.

I think this will work for me. Last year, during a slow period when I wasn't doing any exchanges, I wrote two chapters. I just need my daughter to go back to school. I've got my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates. It's lethally cold out there right now.

I have not done any writing yet today, but I hope to spend some time on it later this afternoon.

One of my resolutions this year was to write at least 500 words daily for my main WIP so I can finally finish it. So far I've managed at least that much each day, and sometimes quite a bit more. I don't know how well I'll do when my next semester at school starts, but so far I'm pretty pleased with my progress.

Excellent day, more than 90 minutes on fic, feel great. We'll see about tomorrow, since I'm not feeling great physically today.

The only resolution I've made is to not do a lot of writing challenges in the new year.

I have spread myself too thin once again, and so in the first week of January I did a lot but somehow accomplished comparatively little. Maybe it's a matter of training my POV to see the work I've done. When I opened my stats page I discovered that I posted some 36 works to AO3 in 2013. And I know I did some meme fills that I lost, too.

Retaining the right mindset is a challenge for me.

I finished my [community profile] kidficstory big bang and have made a start on editing. My next task us to find a beta for it which won't be easy because the fandom is tiny (less than 70 fics on AO3)

I'm not someone who makes resolutions but for this year I want to get through a lot of my unused prompts for various challenges. I dare not count how many I actually have to use.

I joined [community profile] inkingitout and I've planned out which challenges I'm signing up for throughout the year. I'm also planning on participating in [community profile] fan_flashworks on a regular basis again because that's low-pressure and works well with the way I write - you can enter a drabble as contribution if all else fails, or you can write something longer.
I have been writing my first fic for flashworks and am working on the second. I feel all organised right now, but no doubt the year will throw a spanner in the works at some point ;)
