Does music help you write? Do you have playlists for specific fics? How do you feel about noise in general?
Music sometimes helps me write. For some reason, music can help me focus. It does need to be something I know relatively well, however. I've made playlists for two of my long fics, but I don't generally do that. Of course, those two long fics are the only long fics I've done much work on. Maybe, if I started another long fic, I'd make another playlist. It seems like a lot of work for a short story.
I like to have some background noise while I work. A TV show that I don't care much about can work, but often those are too distracting. Familiar music seems to work best.

Date: Friday, January 17th, 2014 20:55 (UTC)Music is nearly always on when I'm writing and when I remember to I mention in my notes what song(s) I was listening to or that inspired a particular fic. I do sometimes make playlists for fic but only when I'm after something specific to match a scene or one of the themes/concepts that I'm working with and sometimes when I've finished and posted certain fics I try to remember to post a copy of the playlist too.
I live in a tenement building on a main road so I've got used to the various noises that come with that and although I don't own a TV I do find that I can't get anything done when I'm near to one, it messes with my already poor concentration levels.

Date: Saturday, January 18th, 2014 04:49 (UTC)I make playlists for my longer stories and use those to keep motivated and help me form new ideas. Most of my shorter stories will be inspired by a particular song or two, rather than a full album or playlist. When that fails, I fall back on my Hora CDs and those always seem to do the trick. I do a lot of my best (and fastest!) writing while listening to Hora.
