Hello on Tuesday! What kind of a writing day has it been for you?
  • I thought about my fic once or twice
  • I wrote
  • I did some planning and/or research
  • I edited
  • I've sent my fic off to my beta
  • I posted today!
  • I'm taking a break
  • I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment
For Discussion: A quote from J.R.R. Tolkien says, “When you are writing a complicated story, you have got to have a map.” Do you use maps when writing?  Are they your own creation or one that someone else has made?

Tuesday for me means no writing will happen.  Tuesdays are just like that!  As for maps, I do use them, pretty extensively.  Granted, when writing a story that takes place in the world as we know it, a map is not really necessary.  However, most of my fic takes place in another world, so maps are very helpful for figuring out who is where and how far away that is.  I have made a few maps myself -- very sketchy things that give me an idea of how things are placed in relation to other things.  My main map usage, however, is a book of maps that someone else prepared.  It's invaluable! That's the advantage of writing in a well-established fandom -- there are resources like maps all over the place!

I tried writing, but nothing happened.

Sometimes I plot a story, but most of the time, I don't plot stories at all.
