Discussion: ideas that you can't remember later on. When you get an idea that you can't later remember, do you think about it? Do you leave it? Something else?



This is me most nights. I do have some my better ideas at night and on the rare occasions when I do have the time to do it, I will stay up and write because it will be gone by the time I wake up otherwise. Sometimes the ideas will come back to me and when that happens I do write down as much of it as I can.

I try not to think up too many ideas when I'm not writing/don't have paper to write on because I usually forget. Sometimes something will pop up randomly and I'll rush to write it down or memorize it, but it's a 50/50 thing, lol. I do, though prefer to get ideas just before bed because I'll spend a few moments trying to memorize the idea then fall asleep so I'll usually remember it as soon as I wake up. I suspect this is because being groggy helps me concentrate better - I've gotten the best video game scores while being groggy, and I can remember my dreams in detail the next morning 4 out 7 times. xDD (But don't ask me questions/attempt to speak to me when I groggy because it just overloads my brain or something idek. xD )

I have several prompts I'm trying to work up and all my ideas seem flat. Hope something comes to me soon -- even in my sleep!

I have ideas come at bad times when I can't write them down, and then they are gone. They do sometimes come back or I can coax them back if I remember a tiny bit, but it never seems quite the same as when they first appear. To avoid the loss of great ideas, I try to get up out of bed and write things down, even just a few words that will jog my memory -- and I keep something with me at all times to make notes if ideas come.

I try not to worry about it too much. Whatever idea I don't recall immediately has probably already dissolved into the idea soup at the back of my mind, to be dredged up at a later date and cannibalized into an entirely different story. Keeps things interesting.
