Discussion: playlists. Do you make playlists for your fics? Is music and other background noise too distracting?

I sometimes make playlists for my fics but usually I just have iTunes playing on shuffle or the local radio station. It depends on my mood when I start writing.

I don't normally build playlists, but I often listen to instrumental cds or radio stations while I write. New Age genre music always puts me in a good mood.

I find that I write better if I have certain kinds of instrumental music playing. I have put together a sort of a play list of a number of pieces that seem to help the most. There is no defining feature about the music except what seems to help me write better -- and that it can't have words or singing with it. Words or voices throw me off and are a distraction somehow!
