WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 27 -- Thursday

It's Thursday and time for another check-in.  What kind of a writing day has it been today?

For Discussion:  When you first started writing, were you shy or hesitant about sharing it or posting it for public view?

I'm thinking about my fic today, which is more than I've been able to do recently.  ;-)  I do have something I need to post, so hopefully I'll get that up today, at least.  When I first started writing, I was a bit nervous about sharing, but not too bad -- because I had some confidence already with "public" writing, even though it wasn't fiction.  The fact that I was in a community of other writers and readers who were encouraging and made me feel safe helped a lot, so my nervousness quickly vanished after my first piece of fic went up for public viewing.

I've spent my day filling in application forms and finishing off some editing, so far I've managed to post a couple of drabble length pieces that I'm not too happy with because they haven't quite worked as I outlined. Hopefully I can get at least one more thing posted before mum rings me this evening.

I was quite shy about sharing my first fic and I posted it f-locked to my LJ first before going out in the fandom and the f-list gave me a lot positive feedback and encouragement.

Wrote some short fic, but other than that, looking at and discarding Harlequin summaries as possible prompts, pretty much.

I hesitated to post my fic at first because I was going against the fanon interpretations of one of my main characters. I think the way I'm writing him is in keeping with canon, but it didn't fit with the then popular ways of writing him. It is more in keeping with how he's generally written these days (new canon came out, and that changed the popular interpretation). Fortunately, my story was well received. I haven't looked back.
