[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Greetings on Friday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today?
  • I thought about my fic once or twice
  • I wrote
  • I did some planning and/or research
  • I edited
  • I've sent my fic off to my beta
  • I posted today!
  • I'm taking a break
  • I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment
For Discussion:  Where do you post your fic?  Fandom-based communities/archives?  General fic archives?  Your own personal website?

I have some unexpected time off today, so I'm hoping to use it for canon research for starters, then hopefully some writing!  As for where I post my fic, I started out posting in a fandom-based community thread, as well as on LJ (and to some extent DW).  Eventually, I moved to posting in fandom-based archives (I post to several of these) -- these are the main places I post and archive my stories.  I have two stories at Fanfiction.net and I am working at getting my longer stories up at Ao3.

I post to my own website and to AO3. I thought at one point about posting to MediaMiner (does that still exist?), but I couldn't figure out the interface. I never seriously considered posting to fanfiction.net because my initial fic writing was all NC-17. I didn't think I could edit it to meet their terms of service, not without doing violence to the storyline. The main fandom I write in, Weiss Kreuz, has never to my knowledge had an archive of its own. I think, of the fandoms I've written, the only one with a dedicated archive is The Pretender (and I don't know if that archive still exists).

Oh, I do have stories in the old Yuletide archive if that counts. Heaven knows what sort of hoops I'm going to have to jump through when they import that archive to AO3. I'll have about ten duplicate stories that will need to dealt with.

I've got some more editing done and an outline for a challenge fic that I wasn't even planning on doing! I want to get a few more things posted over the next couple of days, mainly cross-posting prompt fics to AO3 because I've managed to break my unofficial two week rule for doing so.

I used to post to LJ and when I was involved with X-Files and SG1 fandoms I posted to forums that no longer exist. These days I mainly post to DW and have a personal/closed community just for posting fic and art, and I cross-post some things to AO3. I wasn't at all impressed with fanfiction.net when I experimented with posting there last year because there was too many things I disliked about the site and I'd love to be able to delete my account there but I haven't found any information for that.

Some writing, more putzing about.

I used to post in a Doctor Who archive, but I stop. I post on my own journal and AO3.

I managed to get a little writing done today.

I used to post to FF.net and AO3, but now I only post exclusively to AO3. Since my fandoms are so obscure, you'd think FFn would be a good choice for posting since it's probably the most popular, but I like the way AO3 does things, and anyone doing a Google search for fic in my fandoms will find my stuff in the top results.
