Discussion: to-do lists. Do you ever make to-do lists for your writing? Daily life? Are they useful? Are they too distracting?

Although I try not to make to-do lists for my writing because most of the time I manage to get done everything I set out to do even on long fics, and I only use them in my daily life when it's close to pay day so that can get all my bills for the month in order.

I'm changing my plan for what I am concentrating on for my writing just a bit -- a reader asked for an update on a neglected WIP, so I'm going to concentrate on the next chapter for that one. I need to do some review and a bit of plotting, but I should be able to get back into it fairly easily -- if I just do it! It's going on my to list as a specific task, rather than just the usual "write for 20 minutes" listing.

I am a serious maker of to-do lists. I make them for everything in my daily life and find them very helpful. Rather than being distracting, they remind me of what needs doing and what things are most urgent, as well as which things I have a tendency to procrastinate on (those are the things that keep getting put on the list but don't get done!). I am able to work more effectively when I am working from a to do list. My to do lists for my writing are my outlines.
