Lately I've been thinking about some WIPs of mine that are not so much "in progress" as "stalled out"--some of them I haven't touched in a year or more, despite the best of my intentions. I've been rereading them and revisiting the things I wanted to do and that made me want to write them in the first place, but so far I haven't quite managed to get myself moving on them. I live in hope, but you can hope in one hand and--well, anyway.

Do you ever lose momentum on your stories? Commiserate here, and share strategies for getting those stories moving again!

I'm currently working on my Remix story. I'm doing research and reviewing canon right now. I desperately need to start the actual writing. Maybe tomorrow. I've got my daughter at home all day tomorrow and two extra kids for a considerable chunk of the day, so I may not end up writing. I don't know. I need to learn to write when distracted.

I often start things that I know I'll never finish. Those stories have one of two problems-- Either they're going to be really, really long, or I don't have a clear idea of where they're going. Sometimes, it's both. I've been so focused on my one huge WIP that I haven't really tried to pick up any of the other things I've started and abandoned.

I miss that ficathon that used to happen on LJ-- It was called the Finishathon or the Finish-a-thon or something like that. The idea was that each participant put up a list of the unfinished stories they had (minimum three, maximum ten) and then the moderator would make polls so that anyone who wanted to could vote as to which story a given participant should finish. Participants committed either to finishing the story entirely or, in the case of very long works, adding a certain number of words (seven to ten thousand, usually).
