Just a note-- My internet has been blipping in and out. It doesn't stay out more than about ten minutes at a time, but the outages are happening frequently. I don't expect it to interfere with my posting check ins, but anything is possible. We have put in an service request because we think it's a problem with our phone line. How fast AT&T gets around to helping us, who knows.

Do you ever run into times when you know the story requires that something happen but you can't make it make sense with the characters? Which wins, the plot or the characters?

For me, the characters win every time. Keeping the characters right matters more to me than keeping the plot on track. I just have to find a new angle on the plot.

I feel amazing because I didn't get around to actually writing anything until after 10PM tonight, but I was just overflowing with creativity and I got so much done.

I do have this one snippet of a scene that I wrote for a WIP months and months ago. It was much farther ahead in the plot, and I kept thinking I would progress forward and be able to integrate it into the story. Now I wonder if the tone isn't too adversarial, and if it might not make my romance seem contrived or mean-spirited. I might have to scrap a lot of it, or I might have to work better on the context.

I once had a plan for how I wanted the plot to go, and everything hinged on it going that way; then I realized it was out of character for several of the characters to proceed with that plot line. I figured out a way to make it work, which involved changing the original idea - it turned out much, much better with a slight change of plan and the characters remained true to themselves. Finding the new angle took a lot of thinking, but it was worth it.
