Do you have a standard process for going from a prompt or vague plot bunny to an actual story?
I usually start by letting my brain work on the general idea for a few days (how long depends on how much time I have before the deadline). That generally gives me a starting point. I'm largely a seat of the pants writer, so I don't try to plan too much. I discover the story by writing it. Sometimes, it takes me two or three (or more!) tries to find the right way to start the story. I play with point of view and verb tense, mostly, but I also frequently change the point in time at which I start.
