Hello on Friday! What kind of a writing day has it been today?
Posting, of course, always depends on whether I can get something written! In my earlier writing days (when I had fewer interruptions) I had the habit of posting a new chapter once a week, but recently I realized that I am literally posting one chapter a year on my longest-running WIP. It hardly seems possible, since I'm constantly thinking about it and fiddling with my notes, but I guess I never actually get anything written. Not that I haven't written other things -- I actually produced quite a bit of new fic last year, but it was short, one-shot stuff.
- I thought about my fic once or twice
- I wrote
- I did some planning and/or research
- I edited
- I've sent my fic off to my beta
- I posted today!
- I'm taking a break
- I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

With chapter fics, I've only posted one of those so far, and I had nearly all of it finished by the time I started posting so the gap between updates wasn't too long.

Thinking back, I really can't imagine how I managed to do that. Even with how much more time I had back then, it still feels impossible. Now, though, it's practically a miracle for me to post new chapters (or start) longer work. Like you, I'm constantly thinking about them, and I fiddle and edit a lot as well, but I, too, never actually get any of that written (at least not in a presentable and finished format).
These days, I'm more likely to be posting short things, though I've noticed that I tend to go through periods where I'll be churning out a few within a smallish span of time. Then I'll fall silent for several months before repeating the process all over again. It's like my engine revs up and I'm spitting them out, then inevitably I'll overheat and have to go hibernate until I get restless and start typing madly again. :S
