It's Thursday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today?

•     I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

For Discussion: Change of Plans -- has it ever happened that in your writing you've been going for one thing and something entirely different (but just as good) ends up being written?  When this happens, what do you do with the original plan -- forget about it?  Save it to see if it works elsewhere?

I have had a change of plans at times while writing; once it involved the realization that one of my really good original characters needed to die.  Another time, I had a change of plan that totally changing some choices my characters were making.  This involved rewriting a big portion of my outline and future plan, but it was the right thing to do, and the story benefited from the change because the original plan was actually not in character for some of my characters.  I tend to save all my ideas, even if I don't use them, just in case they are needed, but more so because it's interesting to look back and see the history of my writing and thought process.
