Discussion: old fic. Do you ever read your old fic? How do you feel about it?

I've recently been putting my old fics up on AO3 and I found several that although they were short (drabbles, ficlets) they could be tidied up and made into longer fics, once I figure out where I was going with the idea in the first place. Unless I'm doing a back up/import somewhere I tend not to read my old fic too often and the only time I do it is to see if a new idea seems familiar, then I have to find out if it is something that I've already written.

With reading my old fics again I don't feel too embarrassed by them, there's nothing too cringeworthy, and I also feel like I've improved over the years although I find that silly little mistakes like repetition, missing letters, stray commas and full stops still occur even though I'm better at spotting those. One of these days I may even venture back into some of the fandom(s) that I've been away from for a while.

I occasionally reread my old fic when I'm in the mood for a particular type of story and can't find what I'm looking for elsewhere. I also have works in progress that need regular rereading so that I don't lose track of the details. Other than that, I mostly reread when I'm going to post something somewhere new. That means I'm rereading some stuff now as I post it to fanfiction.net. I'm not sure what I'll make of the Pit long term, but a couple of the fandoms I write regularly are active there.

Posting to fanfiction.net is the only progress I've made this week, unfortunately, and that's going slowly because they cap you at two fics a day for the first ten days.
