Discussion: real life. When life gets hectic do you try and set aside time for writing? Do you wait for things to calm down? Something else?

My life isn't usually too full on these days but today has been a very busy one for me with putting in extra hours at work (we're short staffed again) and making sure I got to my personal appointments on time. I'm hoping that I can manage to stay awake long enough to finish editing and post one fill for the Summer Mini Challenge before I go to bed, adding a bingo fill to the edit/post list may be pushing it but I have wanted to get some words down since I got up and I'm only just now starting my writing for the day. So when things are hectic I try to make notes either in my notebook or on my phone if I have enough battery left, it isn't always possible.

My real life is always hectic these days, and while I have nice-sized blocks of time some days in which I could write, I am often unable to concentrate or am too tired to think enough to get a good round of writing done. I also don't do well if I am interrupted, which is part of why my real life is hectic -- many interruptions! I do my actual writing when things are calm and I have a whole day to devote to it, and use the other times for research, taking notes, brainstorming ideas, and editing/rereading old chapters to keep my hand in. That makes me feel like I'm not totally dropping the ball, and I'm also pretty much ready to write when my chance comes. It usually helps me to have deadlines, but I don't always make those, if it's particularly hectic (like it has been the last two months!).
