Does music help you write? Does it depend on what kind of music?
I like music while I write. I'm better off with something very familiar than I am with something completely new. New music requires more attention and can distract me. Familiar music relaxes me and lets the words flow.

I can do other things like edit or research without music, but don't seem to be able to write fresh words without it. It can't be music with words, though, it has to be instrumental. I have a playlist of songs that seem to inspire that I play on a loop when I want to concentrate on writing.
