They say, "Write what you know." Do you draw on your own experiences when you write?
My experience isn't all that broad, so I rely a lot on empathy and imagination to get into my characters' heads. Getting places right is harder because imagination only works for imaginary places. Thank goodness research is so easy these days. I remember when I'd have had to go to the library for any research I wanted to do. The internet makes thing so much simpler.

Date: Wednesday, July 16th, 2014 16:26 (UTC)I do write from experience. I have used personal experience with medical conditions in my writing, and I have also used some of my travels and knowledge of different cultures. I also use the internet heavily for research, if I don't know something from personal experience.
ETA -- the repair tool on my computer actually worked, so it looks like I'm back in business. Might be time to start looking for an upgrade, though....
