For Discussion:  Word Count -- do you keep track of your word count as you write?

Not much writing just now because I'm busy getting ready for my trip next week and researching post grad degrees for next year but I am thinking about my fic even though it's gone to the back of the pile.

I try not to think about my word count too much unless I'm writing a fic for a challenge that has either a minimum or maximum length requirement then I check on it every so often to make sure that I'm not under or over it.

Did some writing today. Not something huge, but almost the first time this calendar month that I wrote anything. Except morning pages, I mean.

I have just recently started tracking my word count to see if I can meet certain goals. It's hard, but it holds me accountable. It's kind of a universal fanfic currency.
