Discussion: deadlines. How are you at keeping to deadlines? Are they helpful? Are they a hinderance?

I got some writing done today but not as much as I would have liked, still, it's progress and that's the main thing. I find with deadlines it all depends on how invested I am in a particular project or a challenge and also what my RL schedule looks like before I sign up.

I haven't gotten any writing done today as yet, we'll see if I can get my brain in gear after a rather wearing day!

Deadlines are usually helpful to me, because it gives me something to plan for and target -- if I have no deadline, I'm going to procrastinate. Once the deadline passes (which happens due to RL issues sometimes) I have a hard time getting back on track.

I'm good with certain types of externally imposed deadlines-- I've never missed the deadline for an exchange, for example. I'm just terrible at self imposed deadlines or deadlines where there isn't a strong expectation that I will finish in time. So, I guess deadlines are a mixed bag for me. When they work, they work well. When they don't, well.
