Discussion: uninspiring prompts. When you have a prompt that doesn't inspire you to write for it, what do you do? Do you brainstorm ideas? Ask your friends list/circle? Leave it for a later time? Something else?

I got some writing done today and I'm fairly happy with the progress so far this week but having something to post would be great. At the moment I've got prompts on my Summer Mini Challenge table that are uninspiring and they don't seem to work for any of my fandoms or original characters, so I'm tempted to just keep with the three that I have managed to write something for and although there is some time left to finish, I'll more than likely sign up to do the challenge again next year.

If I have a prompt that's not going anywhere, I usually take a day or two and do something else while the prompt stews in my mind. I've never been stumped yet. Of course, I've also never tried a bingo square or anything with broadly applicable prompts. I'm usually working from a fandom, a couple of characters, and my recipient's preferences.

I usually avoid prompts I can't write, and I don't go back to them.

I can usually come up with something for a prompt, especially if it's somewhat general, but I can work with very specific as well. Even if it's a bit uninspiring at first, something usually comes to me if I let it percolate for a couple of days.

I can usually come up with something (not always, but usually). If I get really stumped, I'll ask my friends for opinions, but mostly I just come up with things on my own. I probably won't be pleased with the results or widely circulate the results, but at least the recipient will get a fic.
