Discussion: titles. Are they easy for you? Are they the bane of your life?

I find that titles vary in that sometimes they're easy and other times they're hard but I do usually end up cheating and using a line from a song and although I try to do it, I don't always remember to add a "the title is from this song" to my notes especially if it's something that potential readers may not have heard of.

I have titles without stories and stories without titles. Once or twice I have successfully managed to come up with a title and then write a story for it. And a few times I came up with a satisfying title at the last moment, such as with my fic Albatross. It was staring me right in the face, really.

Titles aren't too bad for me. I usually assign a tentative title at the beginning before I start writing, because I somehow can't write without knowing what it is called. Sometimes that title sticks and other times I change it after the story is complete -- usually using a phrase or a significant word from the story itself.

I wrote and submitted/posted a pretty terrible thing to a prompt challenge today that I wish I could un-submit, but I guess what's out there is out there.

Titles are generally and surprisingly easy for me, but only for story titles though. I'm absolutely terrible at coming up with chapter titles that I'm happy with.
