Do you write the same sorts of things you like to read?

Sometimes I write things that I would love to read if somebody else wrote them (I can't always reread my own work), but there are some things I love that I've never managed to write. For example, I love time travel stories, but I've never written one. I've tried, but it never went anywhere.

I love mysteries, but I can't write them to save my life.

In other news, I fear I may be getting sucked into another anonmeme.

When I read fic I go for humour. I can't write anything funny but I have tried with varying success.

I wrote and posted today.

I love plotty gen and romances, and I mostly write character analysis drabbles. But this year I managed to write both a romantic story (4.5 k words - a LOT for me) and a mystery (16 k words), and I am awfully pleased with myself.

(haven't written anything today or yesterday - I have a bad cold and I cannot brain)

I think I started out writing because what I wanted to read wasn't out there. Now I tend to read what I am not writing because it's usually something I haven't managed on my own.
