How is the writing going today?
Discussion: changing seasons. As it's autumn for most of us, I'm wondering do you do anything differently when you sit down to write when it starts to get colder.
When it starts getting colder I put a small electric heater in the room where I do the majority of my writing and use that for an hour or two and I also keep a pair of thermal fingerless gloves close to my laptop so that I have them close by when my hands are sore from the cold. When I feel that it is too cold to work in my usual space, I pull my bed out (I have a sofabed) and retreat under two heavy duty duvets to get my work done.

Date: Wednesday, October 15th, 2014 14:22 (UTC)First of all, I don't really do anything differently when the seasons change. However, I need to be comfortable writing somewhere else than I usually do in general. I love to write sprawled out across my bed, with a pen and pad. But I've started a new schedule, and that's not going to be possible at times. So my "secondary" spots are going to be my place at the dining room table, or in Dad's big chair. I also hope I'm less likely to fall asleep in either of those places!
I need to change my answer for yesterday to "researched." I'd forgotten that I did start looking for oddball diseases and symptoms (not Ebola - started thinking of this long before the outbreaks started, and the patient's body needs to be touchable.
I don't like "abandoning" fics. I have quite a few unfinished and ideas, but I have this weird thing where I may not think of a fic for ages, and then thoughts on it start pouring out. I don't have a great track record for finishing stories, but I can sure start them and sometimes even know how they'll end :).
That is partly what I want to work on today (Wens). I think I have an idea for Nanowrimo. But it will tie in with at least some of my WIPs, so one of today's goals is to sit down and finally get my writings organized, and into a time-line.
I am very lucky that several years ago some viewers created a fantastic time line of The Equalizer, the series I write the most. http://www.blueskydancers.com/reference/eq_timeline.htm if anyone wishes to look :). I had no part in creating it, but have used it quite a bit.
I started a huge personal timeline many years ago, trying to tie all my writing together, and I need to revisit that.
Also considering David Allen's GTD or Get Things Done. I am beginning to have success with a schedule, but my mind is still whirling more often than not. I like the idea of a "Someday/Maybe list," and am discovering several things that should go on there. Maybe I need a general one and one for writing/WIPs as well? Hmmm.
Time to get back on schedule :). Hope you're writing plenty of words today!
Theresa
PS. I am kind of proud of myself. I've been working on the habit of not saying anything about what I'm writing before at least the first draft is finished and sendable. It's been hard, especially since I am considering this one for Nanowrimo. But I was finding, and still am, that I'm doing much more talking than writing. So hang in there, there's hope yet! :).
(I had a friend who was very good at this, and I remember that I'm trying to emulate her when I want to just spill everything - and that I want a good reaction by my friends from a finished story, not just bits and pieces. It's hard for me!)
