WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 4 -- Thursday

Hello on Thursday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today?

• I thought about my fic once or twice
• I wrote
• I did some planning and/or research
• I edited
• I've sent my fic off to my beta
• I posted today!
• I'm taking a break
• I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

For Discussion:  Have you ever had the experience of discovering another person's story has a similar plot idea to one that you thought was unique to you and your story?  How did you feel and what did you do as a result?

I had this experience, and considered discontinuing my own story -- but only briefly.  I realized that within the fandom we were working in, there are bound to be similar plot ideas, more often than not.  And there are always enough differences between writers that telling a similar story is still worth it.  Besides, I was able to determine that I had the idea first, which encouraged me, even if it was just for my own private satisfaction!

Posted a fic--it's a secret.

I've written things that are similar to other peoples' ideas, but I don't let it deter me from finishing.

Option #1 again, but I'm doing other writing (again) to work my way up to the main story for the month. Kink memes can be a mixed blessing at times.

Discussion: I actually got burned by canon on this one. For one story, I thought I was doing something different, but then a new volume of the source material came out, and ... yep. Luckily, I was only a couple of scenes into the 'fic, but it remains unposted.
