Hello on Thursday! What kind of a writing day has it been today?
I had this experience, and considered discontinuing my own story -- but only briefly. I realized that within the fandom we were working in, there are bound to be similar plot ideas, more often than not. And there are always enough differences between writers that telling a similar story is still worth it. Besides, I was able to determine that I had the idea first, which encouraged me, even if it was just for my own private satisfaction!
- I thought about my fic once or twice
- I wrote
- I did some planning and/or research
- I edited
- I've sent my fic off to my beta
- I posted today!
- I'm taking a break
- I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

For one story, I thought I was doing something different, but then a new volume of the source material came out, and ... yep. Luckily, I was only a couple of scenes into the 'fic, but it remains unposted.
