How's the writing going today, ficcers? Words flowing like rain? Ideas trying to shine out behind cloudy skies? Editing getting rid of the dodgiest of weather metaphors? ;)

How are you doing on your chosen fic(s) for the month so far?
*On track for my goals
*Ahead of schedule
*Behind schedule
*Too early to tell

And what did you do today, fic-wise?
*Wrote
*Researched
*Edited
*Procrastinated
*Sent to beta
*Posted the finished fic
*Something else I'll clarify in the comments

If you wrote any words today, how many did you write?
*1-249
*250-499
*500-749
*750-999
*1000 or more

In three words or less, how are you feeling about the fic(s) right now?

[Edited subject line, because I apparently cannot keep track of the days.]

You read my mind! XD I cleverly made it cloudy and overcast on one page and then miraculously sunny on the next. *headdesk* Thank God for editing, is all I can say.

I have also just, in all seriousness, written the phrase '[the Doctor] is not here to play tourist' in the margin. And now there's a baby Time Lord poking my brain and saying, but whyyyyyyy can't I forget all about the plot and go outside to play?

BECAUSE THE PLOT MATTERS, DOCTOR.

(I'm two pages in. It's perhaps not much of an achievement, but it's faster than I was anticipating when I first reread this. I'm happy.)

I have done this before. I have also had the sun set on the east side of a house, forgotten I gave a long-haired character a hair cut, and had another character take his socks off twice. Fortunately not all in the same fic, but some of these made it past even my beta reader. D'oh!

Two pages is good progress! :D

G.K. Chesterton once had a character lose the same hat at least half a dozen times in the same book (and never pick it up again). Hee!

Not much editing today--a little, b/c I made myself at least open the file--but offline life got in the way a bit. :/ Maybe more later in the week.

& three words: BACK, PLOTBUNNIES, BACK! (I'm gonna make "plot bunnies" one word here, ha.) A few have sprung up but they must stay in check for now!

Just off work. Not too sure of writing style (overdosing on Terry Pratchett and XKCD in the same 24-hour period = this is your brain on what? LOL), but I have library DVDs of specific episodes I actually need to watch as research for specific fics! So that totally counts.

(Also going to post a... thing... I found in my WIP folder. It's a sort of Schrodinger's fic - it's definitely finished, there is no more editing to be done, but I won't know if it's good or horrible until a few days after I post it. So I'm going to get that over with. *g*)

Terry Pratchett & XKCD... Oh, I can only imagine. I broke my brain for a few days reading too much Vonnegut once. It's kind of hilarious -- but interesting -- how binging on another writer's work can reprogram our own writing.

Also, I like your coinage of Schrodinger's fic. I will hope the cat is good.

'Also, I like your coinage of Schrodinger's fic. I will hope the cat is good.'

Thank you! :-) It seems the "cat" is excellent - it was a dark!AU snippet, and has now freaked out my flist in exactly the way I was aiming for but didn't hope I could ever achieve. O_O

(And I got a glowing review from the best beta reader I know, who specializes in concrit in her reviews and doesn't pull punches. Eeee!)

Well I drafted another scene of 450w for my remix fic Now Ive finally got a beginning, middle and end, the actual shape of the fic is clear. Its a bit frightenting. What on earth have I done to this person's story! I reckon my identity will be really obvious too (remix is supposely anonymous for a week. I have particular favorite things and these are showing up in this fic.

I'm also scared of not gettting it beta-ready on time. All sorts of things show up at this stage, including new ideas and paranoia about quality of the writing.

Ive continued to re-read the canon (Hikaru no Go). The characters are all so sweet to one another in it most of the time, its difficult to emulate in the context of the story I'm writing.

I went though several old notebooks for fragments and found another idea I'd forgotten that would suit Blind Go perfectly...If I have time after remix!

Not sure how on track I am with my goals, I probably won't know until I hit (or miss, most likely) the deadline on May 1.

I did, however, write 7K in my big bang yesterday (LOL, sorry for my lousy ability to check in on the right days)

I've written a 2K fic today and written another 2K in big bang. Hope to get more in the next couple of hours! /o/

Just a quick update, BECAUSE I MUST PERSEVERE WITH THE WRITING!!!!!!!!!!! *SRS BZNESS FACE*

Wrote another 1k last night including some sketches for the ending. Today I've mainly been looking for a title, but haven't come up with anything useful so far. I guess I'll keep googling song lyrics until I go to bed...

Augh, titles. I know the feeling - I've had stories that went for months without titles, and have even had to ask my flist for help more than once.

Me, I've taken to just posting with the working title if it's at all viable (stuff like "Useful", "Mundane", "United Nations Mutant Taskforce" - I haven't published with "The One Where..." yet, but it may only be a matter of time), or going through poetry and quotation websites till my brain spits out something vaguely related to the plot ("Someone Came Knocking" and "Madame Nostradamus, I Presume" being equally terrible recent examples.)

TL;DR: sympathy about title woes. WOEZ. ;P

At least 'The One Where' sounds like you might have chosen it on purpose! Most of my working titles are 'That _____ Thing', where the blank space is usually the protagonist's name (That Susan Thing, That Regan & Meredith Thing).

I find that titles are either stunningly obvious or absolutely horrible. And overall, horrible wins.

Hates titles, precious. Hates them.

Yeah, I've only had... two stunningly obvious titles that I can think of. (Both were the inspirations for their respective fics.) And one of them, I couldn't even use because it was also the punch line of the fic! :-( I had to pick another title.

(We hates them forever! *g*)

I've not checked in for a few days. I hope you've all been doing well with your writing.

I'm finally mostly over the incident with the car. It had left me so scatterbrained and exhausted for several days, I was lucky to get my laundry done. The experience has given me new insight into the saying "feels like I've been hit by a truck". Thank goodness it wasn't a truck. At least when we are writers, no experience is wasted; I'm sure it will help inform a story someday. ^^;;

Anyway, after all that, I got back to writing today. Rather than diving headfirst into the main project, I rewrote the ending of an older story that had been bugging me for years. The fix had even eluded me through one entire rewrite from scratch. I needed a character to have an epiphany, but because I had not actually had the epiphany myself as the writer, it came off kind of lame, sudden, and sentimental. I finally understood what the character's reasons were for his new perspective, so I could get into his thoughts a bit more and write it more credibly. No more "My epiphany iz pastede on YAY". ~500 words.

I'm glad you're feeling better! I recommend having your least favourite character hit by a car to celebrate ;)

And yay, making sense of old plots! It's brilliant when that happens.

Thank you! Heh, that is a good plan!

Of course, now that the end is fixed, other parts of the story are looking a little precarious. I like that I am understanding story structure better, but it's a little intimidating and slightly demoralising (but, fortunately, also oddly inspiring), to now be able to see the structural weaknesses in older works. The urge to rewrite so much stuff is strong! Oof!

I took the day off today so I could have some "me" time -- which includes writing something substantial! Of course, I've diddled and dawdled the morning away with nothing to show for it, alas! That will change soon, though... ;-)

I did get some ideas for the end of my Big Bang, which I wrote down and am resisting the urge to research. It's not the end of the thing I need to be worrying about now, but the beginning -- the next day or two has to show me far enough along that I can convince everyone (including myself) that I can finish this.

Meanwhile, my other fics sit patiently waiting. I should at least post some chapters that are already done so that those fics won't feel neglected. :-D
