It's time to sign up for the January WIP challenge!

Some people join the challenge midmonth, or comment on check-in posts without signing up, which is fine -- I'm glad there's a way for the challenge to be useful in a variety of ways.

But for those of you who find the commitment of signing up useful, please leave a comment with the below information.

Signups will be open until the end of December.

  • Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
  • Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
  • What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
  • What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
  • How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
  • Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Copypaste below:

I couldn't continue to run this challenge without assistance with the daily check-in posts. Many thanks to everyone who's helped with the check-ins before!

Please let me know if you'd be interested in helping out. A week per person would be ideal (I usually assign weeks running Sunday-Saturday just for consistency). I'm happy to help come up with suggestions for discussion topics (& Friday or Saturday is usually the general chat/snippet/beta-seeking etc. post).

(& if you've completed a fic through the challenge, don't forget our collection on AO3! If you need AO3 invites, let me know.)

Level of challenge: One chapter. I've only been blocked on this dratted thing for a year. I can do it!

Fandom(s) involved: Weiss Kreuz

What you're looking for from the challenge: daily reminders to write

What you could offer other participants yourself: I'm happy to first read or cheerlead, but I'm terrible on follow through if I don't talk to someone regularly, so feel free to prod me if I've offered to do something for you. I'm not deliberately blowing you off.

How people should contact you: PM works or a comment on any entry in my journal. I post daily, so there are plenty of opportunities.

Time zone: US Eastern (I'm mostly online in the mornings and early afternoon. I may be around in the evening, but I'm usually distracted then.)

I can help with a week of check ins.

Level of challenge: I might add stuff as I go, but my main goals for January are to do all three Fan Flashworks challenges for the month, plus five short 'fics for the Fic Promptly Challenge (or Contest, I forget which) Week at the end.

Fandom(s) involved: Probably a variety.

What you're looking for from the challenge: Structure to keep me on task, as before. I'm still struggling a bit with that.

What you could offer other participants yourself: Encouragement and beta detail, among other services.

How people should contact you: Dreamwidth PM, if you please.

Time zone: U.S. Eastern.

Level of challenge: I'd like a monthly goal of 15,000 words total and 4 posted fics

Fandom(s) involved: Supernatural, maybe the Losers, maybe others

What you're looking for from the challenge: Reminders to write, cheerleading, a cheerleader - man, I have had a couple of really great symbiotic relationships with other writers where we cheered each other on to great stories. I'd love to find that again.

What you could offer other participants yourself: Cheerleading, beta (I am a thorough beta and pressed for time, so only short stories (under 5k) and while I explain a lot in beta, it's not a cheerleady beta - it's most definitely a straightforward editing beta)

How people should contact you: PM me on Dreamwidth or email: kisahawklin at gmail.

Time zone: Central US, though I work in Eastern US during the week. But my hours are roughly the same - evenings after 7pm EST to about midnight.

Level of challenge: I have some challenges I signed up for but didn't complete, so I'd like to make that happen this month; also, if I am not biting off more than I can chew, I want to do one chapter in an ongoing WIP. I have more goals than that, but I probably won't manage more than this, so I'll leave them unmentioned. ;-)

Fandom(s) involved: Lord of the Rings

What you're looking for from the challenge: Motivation and accountability

What you could offer other participants yourself: Encouragement through check in posts.

How people should contact you: DW PM

Time zone: Central Standard US

I'm signed up to do check ins at the end of the month. :-)
