This time of year, it seems to me that the world is full of fic challenges and exchanges. I feel like, every time I turn around, someone's talking about a different challenge. It's more than a little overwhelming. Do you do any of these December challenges? Why or why not?

I do Yuletide every year. I love the challenge of writing for a small fandom that I wouldn't have thought to write otherwise. I love the stories that come out of the exchange. I read through the archive relatively slowly, savoring the stories.

I hope to do [community profile] fandom_stocking this year. I have a stocking, but I haven't yet written anything for anybody. I'm still digging through stockings, trying to find one I can write for quickly. I like fandom_stocking because it's low pressure. I have trouble, though, with the sheer size of it. There are so many stockings and so many fandoms that I get intimidated.

I only do one December challenge, a Yulefic exchange. It's a bit of pressure, but there is lots of time given to work on it, so it's a good challenge.

I have never done – and never intend to do – Yuletide, as that seems to be more of an LJ thing than a DW thing, but I do pinch hit for Fandom Stocking. I agree that the size of it is intimidating, even for a small-fandom person like me.

I make lists for [community profile] fandom_stocking. I start with people on my flist, then I go through fandoms that I love and write down prompts I like and links. That way when I have time, I can go to the links, read the prompts and see if anything inspires me, and just go. I usually only have time to gather links as the stockings go up and then have time to actually write just before Christmas up until New Year's, so this system works out for me.

I also usually do the holiday exchange for whatever fandom I'm in, but so far in Supernatural it's been uninspiring. I don't like how they run it, so I'm all blah about it instead of excited. (I prefer a) anon exchanges, b) exchanges that all go live at once (or in chunks, like [livejournal.com profile] sga_santa and c) exchanges on the AO3.)
