[personal profile] linaewen posting in [community profile] writethisfanfic
Greetings at the beginning of a new week, the last week of our December WIP Challenge month -- as well as the last week of 2014![personal profile] linaewen here to help encourage you and provide you with a setting to talk about your writing as we finish up the year and start a new one.

What kind of a writing day has it been today?
  •     I thought about my fic once or twice
  •     I wrote
  •     I did some planning and/or research
  •     I edited
  •     I've sent my fic off to my beta
  •     I posted today!
  •     I'm taking a break
  •     I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment
For Discussion:  I read a blog where someone gave advice about writing, suggesting it is good to read your fic aloud as part of the editing process.  Do you ever read your fic aloud -- to yourself or to anyone else?

I'm hoping to get some writing done later, but there's a lot of Real Life stuff that needs to get done today, so I'm not holding my breath on that one. *sigh* What a month.

I've read some lines out loud before, but I prefer to sound it out in my head so that it's the character's voice instead of my voice, if that makes any sense.

I... don't read it out loud, but I do recommend it to my beta-ees. I am very rhythmically inclined, so when I edit my own stuff, I read it out loud in my head, if that makes any sense. It's a little like being able to know what a musical score sounds like just by looking at it. If a person doesn't have that skill, though (and usually I can tell by the rhythm of their writing), then I always suggest they read their work out loud. You wouldn't believe the kinds of things it points up that people miss when they're just writing. It's really good practice.

I wrote today. It was definitely a good day.
