Discussion: Renewed interest in an old(er) fandom.

Have you ever gone back to one, or more of your older fandoms? Do you still enjoy it? Do you still get ideas for fic?

I do sometimes rewatch some of the series my older fandoms are for and just now I'm rewatching Stargate and find that I enjoy it more without the actual fandom. I sometimes have ideas for fic but unless the idea is one that I can't stop thinking about then I make notes and see where it takes me.

I go back to books and comics more often than I go back to TV series. I still have ideas for Jeeves & Wooster and Harry Potter, but I feel like I can't go back to Stargate SG-1 or Atlantis because I've forgotten too many details, and re-watching ten seasons plus films and spin-offs to pick up all those details again would be too much. On the other hand, comics (and now Star Trek) reboot things often enough that I can get back into those quite frequently (or ignore the latest reboot in favour of fics based on the classic stories).

I get ideas for Star Trek fusions and for Sentinel/Guide stories, but mostly where I'm using them as a trope in another fandom: Teen Wolf characters as Star Trek starship crew, or Hockey RPF with players as Highlander-style Immortals, or Jeeves & Wooster as The Sentinel-style Sentinels and Guides. I do the Star Trek thing in every single new fandom (I did it as a thought experiment long before I discovered fandom) so I have a table of crew's jobs set up and ready to be filled up with the new fandom's characters.

All right, got this project streamlined down to a more reasonable size. I might take the original outline and make a Big Bang of it, one day, but I have almost everything I need for the challenge on hand, at least.

Heh! I go back to older fandoms all the time. ... Often, because those still have readers, whereas many of my newer fandoms do not.
