WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 29 -- Thursday

Hello on Thursday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today?  Or, if you haven't gotten down to writing yet, how did it go yesterday?

•     I did some planning and/or research
•     I edited
•     I've sent my fic off to my beta
•     I posted today!
•     I'm taking a break
•     I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

For Discussion:  Every month at the WIP Challenge we set goals for what we want to accomplish.  Sometimes we don't reach the goals we set for ourselves.  How do you deal with goals that aren't met -- does it discourage you or do you enter the new month with renewed vigor to see your goals accomplished?  Have you signed up yet for the February challenge?

I have been poor about reaching my set writing goals lately -- case in point, yesterday I did no writing at all, even though I had ample opportunity!  I still feel that setting goals is important for me because if I didn't have any, I would never do anything.  When I don't reach the goals I set for this challenge, I just try again the following month!  It can get discouraging when I continually don't reach a certain goal, but sometimes it has more to do with me making too many goals for the month than anything else.  I try to remain encouraged if I don't meet a goal, because I figure it's still worth aiming for, I just needed more time for it so I take it into the next month with me.  For February, my goal is very limited but very achievable!

I wrote today! And it was thorny, dialogue scenes I thought would hang over my head longer, so I am pleased.

I can generally get past goals that aren't met. Sometimes i feel that this story isn't meant to be, or that it isn't meant to be for this particular challenge. So I either try again, or move on.

Luckily (knock on wood) I have been writing pretty well lately. So I am happy with what I am achieving.
