Discussion: news. Do you ever come across news articles and find ways to use them for your fic?

I sometimes find news articles useful for my fics but whether I use it or not also depends on what I'm working on at any particular time. As an example, this morning the traffic update on my local radio station mentioned that four buses got stuck on an icy road and I can change that around a little bit and use it for a fic at some point.

I have an unexpectedly free morning, so if I get my act together in the near future, I might be able to get some writing in before I have to go to work. I've checked "planned" in the poll, because I can at least get that much accomplished. I'm hoping for more, though.

I have only one WIP that takes place in the current day, and it has to do with baseball. However, there has been a time or two when an article about a player for the team I was following sparked an idea or at least led to more research that proved useful for the story.
