Discussion: challenges. What do you like about them? What do you dislike about them? Do you have a favourite type of challenge?

I seem to have gone a little blank tonight. I like some challenges but I find that I have to be in the mood for participating in them. I like prompt challenges with short deadlines of around a month, and although I like the bingo format I find that the long deadlines mean that I'm more likely to forget about it until it's too late, the same with big bangs and the deadlines are often too far ahead for me to remain interested.

I participate in a monthly prompt challenge because it helps with variety and keeps me writing, even when I'm stuck in my other longer projects. I like working to a deadline. Sometimes challenges are too tempting when I'm actually too busy to spend time on them, and then I feel bad that I've taken on the writing and I struggle to keep to the deadline.
