How do you feel about posting a WIP? If you ever write something long, do you post chapters as you write them or wait until the entire thing is finished to post?

My first fic, Rheotaxis, is still a WIP (23 chapters and 190000 words). I've been posting it as I go and have been working on it for about fourteen years. I'm afraid to start posting any of my other WIP because I'm worried that they'll end up hanging there, unfinished, for years and years. At the same time, posting means a chance to talk to somebody about what I'm writing and where it's going, and I value that. I don't know.

Not a fan of WIPs. I don't like leaving things unfinished, and I tend to not things that need a lot of chapters to complete, anyway.

I'm in the same situation with my WIP lingering for years -- actually, more than one. One is being updated slowly, and people are still hanging in there and reading it, even though it's been at least 10 years since I slacked off on posting weekly. I do have another that I am resisting posting because I don't want to have even more stalled WIPs! I realize it's unfair to readers to have to wait so long for me to continue, but I do like posting whenever I have something ready to add. In the future, I think I will wait to post until I have a huge body of work ready, and make sure I stay ahead with my writing, in case there is another drop off in productivity with any new WIP.

It's rare that I actually finish a longer work, so I'd say I'm comfortable with WIPs by necessity. -_- Though I mostly do short stuff nowadays as it is.
