I've been inching towards beta-readiness on this fic for what seems like forever, but I think due to the writing session today I may actually be there?!? I dunno. We'll see how I like what I've done w/the fic in the morning. ;)

Okay, big freak out over writing a bigbang aside (WHAT WAS I THINKING?), I think I'm good. Sorted out some continuity issues, made a list of scenes I still need to write, and the whole thing should be manageable in 25k at the very most. Editing is a different issue, but I'll worry about that next month.

So, fake ticky boxes:
I'm on schedule.
I've written about 1,5k (of horrible horrible sentences that must never see the light of day).
And now I'll do a little more editing.

Getting there. Slooowly. Big session tomorrow, methinks.

For now, I've hit my biggest bugbear in the whole chapter.

Okay, so. You know at school, or similar situations, when you're in a group that happens to contain the teacher's pet (who is not you). And the teacher has just obviously singled out said teacher's pet for praise that you consider undue, and said teacher's pet is being a bit smug about it.

For some reason, the only way I know to express the inevitable reaction from the rest of the group is an eyeroll. I can't even think of a word that works here, let alone an expression. My thesaurus isn't helping, and neither's Google really. OH AND THESE CHARACTERS PRIMARILY EMOTE TELEPATHICALLY. Actually rolling their eyes would be massively OOC. Which leaves me with this:

Snail and Tagalong [exchange mental [eyerolls]].

Yeeeeah.

Help?

If you've decided against it, how about a 'collective mental sigh'.

I guess thats the trouble with magic, it doesn't have an established vocabluary.

Could you invent a word for it? Is there space to do this and explain it equates to an eyeroll without overloading the passage?

Well, at least someone likes it! :p I wouldn't mind it as a line in itself, it's just that it doesn't really fit with the other telepathy-based interactions I've got. Collective mental sigh might work though.

Yeah, like... 90% of description issues in this fic revolve around me trying to use English (which, funnily enough, has no vocabulary for telepathy) to 'translate' Gallifreyan (which should have a very rich vocabulary for telepathy). A lot of the time someone will 'hear' a texture, and that's when you know I'm just pulling words out of my arse to try and convey my mental picture :p It does work, but it's very frustrating to write.

I'm generally trying to avoid inventing words, but I suppose I could if I had to. It's worth considering.

I am still figuring out the motive of the other main character to integrate him into the plot, so far I have progress.

For the other bang, still no idea yet.

I'm definitely behind schedule because I'd hoped to send my remix to the beta on Saturday 16 and its still too ugly. The weekend isn't helping either. I'll try to catch up next week.
