Do you write the same sorts of stories that you like to read?

I do, and I don't. I write a lot of divergent AUs, and I like those a lot. I also write a lot of certain types of angst that I enjoy reading. I can't write humor, however, and I do enjoy reading that.

There are types of stories that only I like, and that's a fair portion of what I write, but, more often than not, I'm writing for a prompt or request, so I'm tailoring something to what somebody else would like to read. I don't mind, though; I wouldn't claim a prompt or request if I didn't find it at least somewhat interesting.

I spent much of my day yesterday researching a story idea that has nothing whatsoever to do with any of my current WIPs or claimed prompts. When I tried to buckle down and write the other stuff, it was flat and uninteresting. I guess this story idea is one I'll probably be writing at some point, so the time isn't wasted, but it's not exactly what I had planned for my day off!

For the most part I read what I like to write, but there are a few things I read that I'm not good at or interested in writing myself, which is why I read those particular kinds of fics.

Yes, I write the stories that I like to read, for the most part. Sometimes I can't think of something really good for a prompt.

I spend too much time organizing and researching and not enough writing. I have a stack of papers on my printer that I need to type - I write longhand and then type before editing.

I really need to finish 2 scenes and write at least one for my girlfriend/beta. Haven't edited or published them, I promised the two to her before this weekend. Not going to get done before midnight tonight - in a few minutes.

Creating a bunch of helps so I can stay on track - a poster with my self-deadlines, for instance - has been fun. But it shouldn't take the place of writing itself.
