Discussion: titles. How do you come up with the titles for your fics? Do you find it easy? Do you find it hard?

I've been struggling to come up with titles for a couple of challenges that are due and usually I can get something that fits fairly easily but so far it isn't happening. The suggestions that I've been given are helpful and I'll more than likely end up using those when I get around to posting.

When I'm stuck for a title, I go to this website and pull up random poems until I find a snippet (2-5 words) that works. I often end up noting down a lot of things that would make good titles for other stories.

I don't do it as much anymore but I like using titles or snippets of song lyrics for fic titles. Lately I've been lazy and just use single words for fic titles. But you can also use a title generator. They should be easy to find with a quick Google search. I would suggest generating a few different titles then mixing and matching!

Eh, I'm pretty careless with titles, at least when it comes to one-shots and shorts. Just one-word throwaways, most of the time. For the bigger works, though, I try to make something more distinctive (e.g. the name of a key character from the story, a core concept, a major theme, etc.).

I usually assign a working title that is at least enough to distinguish it from other works. Once I am into the fic, I get a feel for what it is about, and then change the title. I usually end up using a actual word or phrase from the story the sums up the plot.

I try to come up with a phrase that captures the major theme or spirit of what I'm writing, but isn't actually a line from the fic. That can be difficult to do, though...so I fall back on song titles or lyrics a lot. ^^;
