It's already that time again! Anyone up for the WIP challenge again next month?
I wanted to note that we generally have a few people who join midmonth, or who comment on check-in posts, etc. w/o officially signing up--which is fine! For those of you who find the commitment of saying out loud that you're going to finish something useful (I certainly do!), please sign up as below.
Signups will be open until the end of the month.
Copypaste below:
Could we also get a few volunteers to do the daily check-in posts? A week per person would be ideal, if possible. Let me know if you're interested & if there are any dates you can't do. Many thanks, as ever, to those helping out in April!

- Level of challenge: 1 chapter, 1000 words, 1 fic finished, whatever you like
- Fandom(s) involved: if you know at this point
- What you're looking for from the challenge: this could be as vague or specific as you like: someone to be accountable to, someone to remind you to write, someone to bounce ideas off, etc.
- What you could offer other participants yourself: ditto!
- How people should contact you: DW message, e-mail, IM etc.
- Time zone: useful for seeing who might be up for a writing session at a time convenient to you

Date: Friday, April 22nd, 2011 00:19 (UTC)The best advice I have from my two attempts -- at least as far as the thing that I believe made the difference between succeeding one year and failing the subsequent -- is not to over plan or have too much investment in your idea. The more expectations you have about the finished product, the harder it can be to let go of them and write. But if you start with little more than a nifty premise and the curiosity to see where it will go, then you can set yourself free. Of course, YMMV!

Date: Saturday, April 23rd, 2011 03:00 (UTC)Fandom(s) involved: White Collar, Beyond the Rift (livejournal RP)
What you're looking for from the challenge: Accountability, mostly. Having check-ins means I'm less likely to procrastinate. Butt-kicking if I skip too many check-in days or spend too much time "researching." Possible plot/structure critique because I'm nervous about storytelling ability. (I'm a RPer who is trying to cross over into fic writing so I'm a lot more confident in my characterization.)
What you could offer other participants yourself: Camaraderie, nagging, plus possibly technical research, and line/grammar beta skills. I can also do story/characterization beta if I know the fandom.
How people should contact you: DW message probably works best. You can also nag me on twitter @_dchan or on AIM (message me for my sn).
Time zone: UTC-7 (Pacific Daylight Time), but I'm very much a night owl.

What you could offer other participants yourself: the same -- also, I'm willing to do some daily check-in posts. NOTE -- my internet access may be questionable or intermittent for two weeks in the middle, so if you need me to do check-in posts, I'm free the first and last weeks of May.
How people should contact you: DW PM

I was thinking about not signing up for May, but I'm finding it really helpful to have daily accountability -- and since I've gone and signed up for even MORE writing challenges, I need that very much. ;-)
