It's already that time again! Anyone up for the WIP challenge again next month?

I wanted to note that we generally have a few people who join midmonth, or who comment on check-in posts, etc. w/o officially signing up--which is fine! For those of you who find the commitment of saying out loud that you're going to finish something useful (I certainly do!), please sign up as below.

Signups will be open until the end of the month.

Level of challenge: Two fics finished. Ideally my help_japan fic (I should be on track to finish my help_japan one this month!) & my belated poetry_fiction one--but yeah, I've been wanting to finish that last one since January. I'll take finishing two fics, whichever ones I can get!

Fandom(s) involved: Probably K-On!, hopefully Otome Youkai Zakuro. If I don't end up writing something Natsume Yuujinchou next month I will be surprised.

Level of challenge: I'm doing manowrimo next month, which means I'm attempting to write 50,000 words. Oh gods, I don't know if I can write that much. So, I'll put 20,000 words as my WIP challenge goal, with every extra word being bonus.

Heh, I think NaNo-like stuff is insane. Then again, I never claimed to be sane.

I never claimed to be sane either, but I've been writing fic for three years and my lifetime (published) wordcount is 18,700 or thereabouts. WHAT HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO.

(But I always knew this was going to happen sooner or later - it's one of those things you try once just to see what it's like. *g* It should be interesting, anyway!)

It's really fun, if you can get the inner editor to shut up for the duration. It's amazing what comes out of the subconscious when you can just let go and write and write and write and write... and write. You find yourself writing things you never consciously thought about, it just pours out, and it can be brilliant and inspired and amazing. It's a great experience.

The best advice I have from my two attempts -- at least as far as the thing that I believe made the difference between succeeding one year and failing the subsequent -- is not to over plan or have too much investment in your idea. The more expectations you have about the finished product, the harder it can be to let go of them and write. But if you start with little more than a nifty premise and the curiosity to see where it will go, then you can set yourself free. Of course, YMMV!

Butt-kicking if I skip too many check-in days or spend too much time "researching." Possible plot/structure critique because I'm nervous about storytelling ability. (I'm a RPer who is trying to cross over into fic writing so I'm a lot more confident in my characterization.)
What you could offer other participants yourself: Camaraderie, nagging, plus possibly technical research, and line/grammar beta skills. I can also do story/characterization beta if I know the fandom.
