Discussion: posting. Do you post new fic straight away? Do you wait a while?

Nothing doing yesterday, as I was traveling. I should have some time today to see how far into my writing I can get!

I usually post new fics right away, unless for some reason it's written but I'm not satisfied with it. However, in the case of my longest running WIP, any new chapters written in the coming days will be put on hold for posting. My new policy is to stay ahead by 2-3 written chapters as opposed to what is actually posted -- in an attempt to have a shorter time between posted chapters.

I usually have to, thanks to deadlines, but, like I've said before, that's a habit I'm trying to break.

I never post fic right away unless I have to because of exchange or fest deadlines. I have to spend a day or two to convince myself that yes, what I wrote is fine and worth posting publicly. Sometimes I'm never able to make it to that point, but I'm trying to become more confident. ^^;

I am trying to get to the point where I feel comfortable enough about what I've written to finish and post it. I have goals and plans, but it seems every time I begin to "up my game," the rest of me balks. I get so aggravated with myself. I don't join in exchanges, etc.because I don't think I can fulfill my promises.

All day yesterday at work, I thought of a good fic that would be great for me to send to my girlfriend, involves one of her favorite characters. Got home last night, and instead of writing it ASAP, I took a cold pill, did some reading that I didn't need to do, and eventually went off to sleep. Words written: 0

I think I write passably well. I try to grammar and spell check everything, by computer and my eyes, and even then I catch errors after I've send it to my friends, which is why I want a beta or two. Don't think anyone would run screaming from the internet after reading one of my stories/vignettes :).

Time to leave, have a great Friday! :)
Theresa
