Happy Thursday! What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or yesterday, if today hasn't gotten going yet?
  •     I thought about my fic once or twice
  •     I wrote
  •     I did some planning and/or research
  •     I edited
  •     I've sent my fic off to my beta
  •     I posted today!
  •     I'm taking a break
  •     I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment
Discussion:  In light of yesterday's discussion of word counts, how do you feel about fixed-length fics? Do you write them? Read them? Do you participate in challenges that involve writing stories that are a fixed length?

I am currently trying to select a story to remix. My remixee has more than fifty stories in the fandom we matched on, and I'm not sure I have time to read them all, so I'm kind of skipping around, looking at summaries and tags and the reading (and taking notes on) anything that catches my eye. My goal is to pick a story tonight or at least to have a short list.

I'm willing to write for challenges that have a minimum word length as long as that minimum isn't more than about 2000 words. I'm unwilling to write for anything that has a maximum number of words or a fixed number of words. I know myself well enough to be sure that I'd have a terrible time doing either.

Did a drabble today, so the question's a good one to ask. I used to be wary of fixed lengths, but they're now a regular part of my output. Often, they've saved my butt at the last minute, though I feel a bit sheepish about going that route.

Progress is pretty good. I've done four of the five days of the current Fic Promptly Challenge Week, and I'm sure I'll be able to do the fifth, so ... that's definitely a goal met for the month.

I wrote a fair amount yesterday, and finished a short fic today--it still needs a lot of editing, but the most difficult part is finished. Probably. :P

I like writing and reading fixed length fic. From a writing perspective, sticking to a set word length keeps me from rambling on about tangential, unnecessary information. As a reader I like seeing how the author works with the restraints imposed by the format.
