WIP Challenge Check-in, Day 29 -- Monday

Hello on Monday!  What kind of a writing day has it been today -- or yesterday, if today hasn't gotten going yet?

•     I did some planning and/or research
•     I edited
•     I've sent my fic off to my beta
•     I posted today!
•     I'm taking a break
•     I did something else that I'll talk about in a comment

Discussion:  Have you ever realized that the short piece you just wrote that was meant to be a one-shot is the perfect opening for a longer WIP?  What do you do when that happens?  Do you go with it, or do you ignore it because you already have enough writing to work on?

Yesterday was unproductive, but I am planning on making some kind of writing progress today -- editing, at the very least, but hopefully also some writing that will eventually end up in a posted fic or chapter.

I had a short thing that was supposed to be a one-shot turn into an epic WIP that is still ongoing. Another very short one-shot I wrote -- with NO intention of continuing it as a long story -- was greeted by readers as something they wanted to continue. They convinced me that it might be something interesting to pursue, but I have done nothing more with that than to make a sub-folder for it in my writing folder and doing a little research to see if it is doable.

Today was sent dealing with car trouble. (Not mine, as I don't drive, but there are others in the immediate family who do.)

I often have to leave things be and move on to the next project, but ... there are times when I'd like to back to old ideas in shorts and expand it.

I did some proof-reading/editing/posting, but no actual writing. I hope to do better today.

I have often been in a situation where I tried to knock an idea out of my head by squeezing it into a one-shot. Once, a good while ago, I was convinced to try and continue a one-shot into a longer story. That turned out to be a mistake, as I was (par for the course) wildly over-committed. And the story never made it past chapter two.
