Discussion: images. Can you write using an image as inspiration?

I wrote today and it looks like a complete fic too, just a short one written while I was working a long shift. I'm getting that typed up before I go to bed, it shouldn't take too long because my writing is surprisingly readable (for a change!).

I generally can't write from images at all, I've tried but the fic ends up being an epic fail.

Today was football all day, so no writing. ;-)

I have written a couple of fics from images that turned out very well -- only once was the image (a painting) chosen by me; the other times it was assigned as a prompt. I also sometimes use images for descriptive scenes to help me write the setting so it is clear in the reader's mind.

On Sunday I re-picked up a fairy tale retelling that I had begun to think was a lost cause, and made real progress. I hope to work on it again later this week, or early next week. Meanwhile I'm letting it sit before I reread it -- to make sure that the transition is seamless.
