Discussion: revisions of older fics. Do you ever go back and revise fics that you've already posted? Do you leave them alone once they're posted?

Not much writing on the fic front these last couple of days but plenty for uni, I have a debate to prepare for tomorrow night on controversy of nature/nurture and it's very heavy going, it wasn't a topic I enjoyed at undergrad either.

I've done revisions of already posted fics a couple times, mainly to fix pacing and niggling inconsistency and I'm currently working on a revised version of a fic that I only posted a few weeks ago because I aren't too happy with how that turned out.

Haven't been here in ages, but maybe it's time I started checking in again. I finished my massive WIP from back in the day, and I've been waffling and woefully unproductive ever since. Time to get back on track...

As to revisions, well, I always mean to and seldom do. I tend to feel a lot of shame toward my fics after I post them and trying to revise leads me to delete the entire thing as often as it leads to productive revisions. (Another thing I really need to work on...)

Haven't been writing at all this week, and just added to my load by requesting a prompt for a new fic! Oh, well. ;-) Still might get somewhere tonight if I can settle down to writing mode.

I don't usually revise short fics unless someone calls my attention to a mistake, but I have gone back and worked on a couple of my longer ones -- usually to make sure my writing is consistent as far as grammar and punctuation goes. I've been writing for a number of years now and my style has changed a bit! I actually rewrote a fic through editing because I didn't like how one of the characters was turning out. I am currently working on editing my very first fic, which was posted on a very limited basis, so that it ties in better with my other stories, and to fix the "first time" writer mistakes I made -- which aren't that many, surprisingly! I'll be posting it more publicly when it's further along.

I used to be a serial reviser, and it's likely a habit I should get back into cultivating.
